What Is Narak Chaturdashi / Kaali Chaudas  ( Choti Diwali ).

Narak Chaturdashi is the second day of five day long diwali festival ( others are  1st day is Dhanteras, 3rd is  Diwali, 4th day is goverdhan pooja  and 5th day is bhai dooj ). It is celebrated on the fourteen day of kartik month that is why word Chaturdashi (Chaturdashi is  a Sanskrit word which means 14 ) and according to English calendar it comes in the month of October / November .  It is also called kaali Chaturdashi or kaali chaudas. As kali signifies Shakti ( power ) , astrologers or tantric or saints can harm anyone or can do any good as well because it is believed that whatever you desire you can get all that by performing astrology Havans or Tantrik Rituals.

It is believed that Maa kaali killed the demon named naraksura that’s why  it is called narak chaturdashi . And it is believed to abolish laziness, bad desires, negative thinking which create obstacles in our life and lead us to on negative path. And it is also signifies the power of women as well.

Another Story.

There is one more saying about this day that lord Hanuman  when he was kid, he was lying on the land when he saw the sun as he was very hungry he thought sun is apple and he ate that sun this caused the complete darkness, so lord Indar requested hanuman to return the sun, On refusal from Hanuman  Lord Indra unleashed the hanuman and forced  him to release the sun.

On this day people go to kaali maa temple and offer worship and also want maa to fulfill their desires.  And whereas tantrics  or astrologers perform special rituals to satisfy the needs of their clients.

Pooja to be performed on narak Chaturdashi-

On this Day people offer oil, flowers, sandal wood , coconuts to Lord hanuman and also Prasad of rice flakes ( Poha ) is distributed and people worship their kul devta as well to have their blessings on them. And on this day it is believed that Pooja should be performed by the woman only.

And one  More interesting saying about this festival is that if people wash their head and put kaajal in their eyes will free them from Evil Eye ( Buri najar ) and black magic. As it is believed that this day has special importance for the black magic people who can do anything to fulfill their desires.
